Education Tour History
Each September elementary school classes have an opportunity to learn about animals and agriculture first hand at the Washington State Fair. The Educational Tours are held weekdays during the Fair.
The Educational Tour guide takes the teacher, students and chaperones through the non-commercial buildings and exhibits, and educates them about Washington State Fair history. 4-H and FFA students and open class exhibitors in the barns provide additional information about their exhibits. The 1-1/2 hour tour includes the Fair Farm.
The Washington State Fair Educational Tour (formerly known as the Howdy Tour), which debuted in 1977, is a fair time field trip offered to kindergarten through fourth-grade students. The Educational Tour was originally designed as a fun learning experience, with the assistance of a group of local elementary teachers who felt that the Fair was an important resource.
